And how particularly cool that you're a supervisor AND a supervisee. Me too.

You make an important point. Often times we think we know what's going on and we're so convinced of it and we miss opportunities to be more effective. And your example of feeling "less than" is an excellent one. Thanks for sharing it. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to checking out your blog!
Roiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12840915191850723381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2906560836708126523.post-62053088898593289882014-05-06T22:07:17.553-04:002014-05-06T22:07:17.553-04:00HI Roia:

I love this post thought because it's such an important commentary on the importance of reflective practice, no matter what your approach. I provide supervision to both art therapists and talk therapist and the process is much the same.

I find in my own supervision that even when I THINK I understand my reactions to a client, there are times that having an outsider's perspective is key to me understanding my own feelings. This completely informs my approach. If for instance, I am feeling somehow "less than" my client, I am going to treat them differently than the client with whom I feel I am on equal footing, and this is a disservice to this person.

Thanks so much for your great work.
Amy Maricle, LMHC, ATR-BCAmy Mariclehttp://www.foxboroarttherapy.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2906560836708126523.post-69823369173756991752014-04-17T23:38:35.097-04:002014-04-17T23:38:35.097-04:00This was a great post!
